Clay Tree (Site-specific Sculpture Project)
As a site-specific work of art is designed for a specific location, if removed from that location it loses all or a substantial part of its meaning. The term site-specific is often used in relation to installation art, as in site-specific installation; and land art is site-specific almost by definition.

Project
Each child receives a chunk of natural clay - ask them to knead it to soften it.
Find a good tree and firmly press your clay onto the bark of the trunk. Use your fingers to form the clay into the outline of your sculpture’s face. You might build the shape up to create a nose, chin, and ears. Use the found materials that you collected earlier to include facial features. Native woodland creatures, aliens, superheros, insects, robots or anything else you can think of! A brand new species? Send us a photo of your creation on Tara Hill
