Whether you're just starting out or already experienced, you’ll gain practical skills and expert guidance to capture and develop stunning images.

Throughout the course, you’ll learn how to master your camera settings and exposure techniques, explore the intricacies of film photography, and dive into traditional darkroom methods like contact printing and toning. You’ll also discover digital darkroom techniques to fine-tune your images, and build a strong portfolio with a cohesive body of work.

The course includes hands-on training in film loading and development, darkroom setup, and print presentation, alongside insights into photography’s rich history and visual culture. By the end, you'll have the knowledge to craft your own photographic style and the tools to present your work professionally, all while exploring the techniques and creative processes that make black and white photography truly timeless.

  • The course will support students in making successful applications to full-time QQI level 5 and 6 courses like our Portfolio Preparation Level 5 and Advanced Portfolio Preparation Level 6 full-time programmes.

  • Places are based on a first come, first basis. There is no portfolio or interview required to gain entry onto this course. We prioritize BTEI eligible students who have a medical card or in receipt of a social welfare payment, listed below:
